60%

of young people leaving care experience homelessness or unemployment within two years

Across Queensland, over 60% of young people leaving care experience homelessness or unemployment within two years. Many programs focus only on accommodation, leaving young people without the tools they need for adult life.

Our WHY is simple: we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive. That means leaving AVA House with a job or training, housing readiness, a driver's licence, financial literacy, and the confidence to stand independently.

What Independence Looks Like

Every young person leaving AVA House should have:

A job or training pathway

Employment readiness, resume skills, and active placement support.

Housing readiness

Understanding tenancy, budgeting for rent, and maintaining a home.

A driver's licence

Learner hours, licence preparation, and practical driving support.

Financial literacy

Saving, spending wisely, understanding bills, and building financial confidence.

The confidence to stand independently

Self-belief, resilience, and the knowledge that they are not alone.
